Lauric acid, also known as dodecane acid, is a saturated fatty acid. Its molecular formula is C12H24O2. Although called lauric acid, it only accounts for 1-3% of the oil. At present, the vegetable oils with high content of lauric acid are coconut oil (45-52%), oil palm seed oil (44-52%) and babassu seed oil (43-44%). Although lauric acid is a saturated fatty acid, its cardiovascular risk is lower than other saturated fatty acids.
Surface activity: Lauric acid has a strong surface activity and can remove oil and dirt from the skin surface, so lauric acid is often added to facial cleansers. Lauric acid is relatively mild and generally does not harm the skin. Oily skin can use facial cleansers containing lauric acid to remove excess oil and reduce the chance of pore blockage.
As a food additive: Within the prescribed dosage, lauric acid can also be used as a food additive, such as in the production of baked goods, children's milk powder, and pasta
In the food industry, lauric acid is used in the production of baked goods, infant formula, pasta, etc.
In the cosmetics industry, lauric acid is a raw material for making soaps, detergents, cosmetic surfactants, and chemical fiber oils.
Lauric acid is also used as a lubricant and vulcanizing agent to improve the durability and performance of products in the plastics and rubber industries. It is also used in the manufacture of alkyd resins, chemical fiber oils, pesticides, synthetic fragrances, etc
